Crossing the Mississippi River
Crossing the Iowa/ Illinois State Line
Our starting point this morning is Iowa eastbound I-80 exit 201 at Kwik Star Stores in Brooklyn, Iowa. The employees at Kwik Star were very friendly and there is Free WI-FI. We left onto eastbound I-80 at 8:51 Am (CST.) We had bananas for breakfast while on the road. We made our first engine stop at a rest area located at Iowa eastbound I-80 exit 236 just west of Tiffin and Iowa City, Iowa at 9:33 Am (CST) We got some coffee out of the vending machine for $1 a cup. We got back on the road at 10:11 AM (CST)
We made our second engine stop at I-80 exit 270 at 10:49 AM (CST) and got back on the highway at 11:04 AM. We made a third stop at the Flying J on eastbound I-80 exit 292 in Davenport, Iowa at 11:32 AM (CST). At the Flying J we took showers (free with points from fuel and meals – normally $8) and had lunch. Fred had a cheeseburger and water and I had a hamburger and water. Lunch was only $16.10 plus tip. We left the Flying J at 1:15 PM (CST)
We crossed the Mississippi River (Iowa-Illinois state line) at 1:34 PM (CST)
We then stopped at Illinois I-80 exit 19 Genesso, IL Walmart at 1:57 PM (CST) to let George rest. We bought Cartoon DVD collection $5.36 and Valentines conversation hearts $2.53 back on road at 2:17 PM (CST) We made another engine stop at Illinois I-80 exit 51 West of Princeton, Illinois at 2:56 PM (CST) and got back on the road at 3:12 PM (CST). Stopped at Illinois, I-80 exit 56 Princeton, IL Pilot/Road Ranger for gas at 3:21 PM (CST) Bought 37.131 gallons at $1.959 per gallon total $72.74. We got back onto the road at 3:36 PM (CST)
We stopped for the night at the Flying J at Illinois I-80 exit 77 Lasalle, Illinois at 4:02 Pm (CST) For dinner we at the Flying J Magic Dragon Restaurant. We shared the family meal deal total $17.11 The wind and rain was strong and we had to put bowls and pots out to catch leaks. We traveled 185 miles today.
